Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina was established July 22, 1902 under the government of President Eduardo López de Romaña. In 1912, the Central Agronomic Station was created with a view to develop agricultural experimentation and to serve farmers. Within the first fifteen years of foundation the School was already applying the three fundamental aims of the University: teaching, research and extension. In 1960, the school received university rank with the denomination Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina and the faculties of Agronomy, Zootechnics, Agricultural Engneering and the Institute for Research and Advances Studies began to function as academic bodies the following year.
UNALM offers 12 undergraduate degrees, 25 master of science degrees and 7 PhD programs offered. It currently has more than 5,100 undergraduate students and 1,200 post-graduate students. In addition to academic offerings, the University has six research institutes.
