About This Partner

Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Africa, and Uganda’s largest institute of higher learning. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 3,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.

Makerere University’s mission is to provide innovative teaching, learning, research and services responsive to National and Global needs. Makerere portrays itself as a reservoir of the country’s intellectual elite with the obligation to champion social, political and economic change in society through professional extension services and influencing policy.

Makerere University is home to a number of unique centres of national interest such as; The The Food Technology and Business Incubation center (FTBIC)-CAES, Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC)-CEDAT, Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa (CTCA)-CHS, Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC)-CoCIS, Petroleum Exploration And Production Technology Laboratory-CoNAS, Proposed National Nuclear Science And Energy Centre-CoNAS, Central Diagnostic Laboratory (CDL)-CoVAB, and many more.
